A Path You Light

A Path You Light is a site-specific interactive installation that is brought to life by visitors’ movement through it. Within the installation’s interior, LED panels are strategically embedded along one side of the tunnel. Motion-sensors throughout the tunnel act as a responsive medium, detecting movement and triggering the LED nodes near the figure. This interaction enables the visitor to become the driver of the installation, as the LED nodes lie dormant until they are triggered by the presence and motion of the visitor. As visitors explore the tunnel, the LED nodes respond dynamically to their motion, illuminating their immediate vicinity and projecting contours of the visitors' silhouettes on the opposing wall. On the opposite side of the tunnel, the wall is constructed in textured glass that blur the interior of the tunnel while allowing the light to seep from within. As the figures block the light from one wall onto the other, the result on the exterior of the installation on the translucent wall is a halo of light surrounding each figure’s shadow as they journey through the installation. This creates a play of light and shadow for both the visitors inside and out. As visitors traverse the tunnel, they find themselves both the conductor and the subject of this living artwork. A subtle message of hope lies in the link between movement and illumination. The ephemeral silhouettes cast on the exterior wall, visible to the outside viewers, hint at the movements unfolding within. The anonymity of the figures to the outside viewer is central to the installation, allowing the visitor a private experience while conversely being at the heart of a public art installation. As their silhouettes are intentionally pixelated through the textured glass, the identity of the visitor is rendered irrelevant to their affect. A Path You Light is meant to evoke a visceral experience that celebrates namelessness in a fame-crazed era.
